Why You’ll Never See Your Abs

If you never get rid of your belly fat, then you’ll never see your ab muscles. It doesn’t matter how frequently you train, how many reptitions you do, or what kinds or exercises you use. Ab training does not get rid of the fat on your belly!

This is definitely one of the biggest myths out there about exercise. The general public is probably NEVER going to understand this. The myth that abdominal training burns fat off of your abs is so commonly belived, that I suspect it will never be accepted in the mainstream and will continue to be passed down on our next generation.

The truth is, getting a “six-pack” of ripped abs has almost nothing to do with  exercise or training. It has everything to do with how low your body fat levels are.

It’s funny because, most bodybuilders find that the abdominal muscles are quite easy to develop. There’s no doubt the abdominal conditioning is much easier than building an 18″ muscular bicep, or a heavy bench press, a 405 lb squat or a wide “V” shaped back, for instance.

Some people might argue that bodybuilders are just blessed with good genetics in the ab muscles, which is a valid argument. However, based on my experience with others who have less favorable genetics, I still believe that developing the abdominal muscles is much easier than we make it out to be. The hardest part is getting your body fat low enough for your abs to show, which usually requires a rigorous “cutting” phase.

In the end, most fitness trainee’s greatly overtrain their ab muscles. Training your abs daily or even every other day for hundreds or thousands of reps is totally unnecessary and a complete waste of time. Even before competitions I only train abs twice a week!
